Recently, Soumya has withdrawn her name from Asian Nations Cup (Asian Team) Chess Championship 2018. In fact, the chess competition is on July 26-August 4, 2018 in Iran.

The reason behind this hard decision is that the woman chess players participating in the competition have to wear a headscarf. Soumya has refused to wear headscarf during the game. In the year 2016, Heena Sidhu (shooter) has denied to participate in Asian Airgun Shooting Championship’ held in Iran due to the same reason. Soumya thinks that there is only one-way to protect her rights is not to go to Iran.
