It seems that having exorbitant wealth in inevitably leads to becoming either a superhero or super-villain. Such is the case with , two of the richest men in the Marvel Universe, one of whom is an iconic villain and the other a fan-favorite hero. But if they were to be compared, how would Osborn’s wealth stack up against that of Tony Stark?
The Green Goblin has been Spider-Man’s rival since 1964’s The Amazing Spider-Man #14 by Stan Lee, though the Goblin’s secret identity wasn’t until later in the series. The father of Peter Parker’s lifelong friend Harry Osborn, Norman is the head of Oscorp, a multi-billion dollar chemical corporation. Norman was born into wealth, but his hatred of his abusive father imbued him with a determination to become even more successful on his own. It all started when Stark Industries was founded by Isaac Stark, Sr. in the 19th century, after which control remained in the hands of his descendants, all the way down to Tony. However, it was under , that Stark Industries saw true prosperity. Howard turned the company into the world’s foremost munitions developer, which led to success in other fields like aerospace and robotics, paving the way for his prodigy of a son to become Iron Man and advance the company even further. Forbes has Stark Industries’ sales listed as $20.3 billion, but Tony’s personal net worth is harder to determine. Some sources put him in the $12 billion range, while others list him as high as $80 billion. With a bank account like that, its no wonder Iron Man is the de-facto financier of the Avengers.
Looking at the numbers, it's clear that Stark Industries beats Oscorp by a handy margin. Even if we take the lower estimate of Tony’s net worth, it’s still $2 billion more than Norman Osborn’s. It’s a wonder Tony Stark hasn’t thought to just buy Oscorp and put the Green Goblin out of business because no matter how you slice it, Iron Man is wealthier - although neither of them can .
