    A Big Data specialist is a hero who, based on the study of large data arrays in various spheres of life (it can be both business and science), formulates trends, highlights trends and predicts what cannot be seen with the naked eye.

    Skills of Big Data Engineer

    In practice, such data science consulting services research leads to scientific discoveries, an increase in the efficiency of the company, the identification of new sources of income, an improvement in customer service, etc., but not everyone can deploy the Big Data ball.

    Personal Qualities of a Big Data Specialist: A Snob or a Perfectionist?

    The homeland of Big Data can be confidently called America, and in English this profession is called “Data Scientist” – an unambiguous hint of what a real data specialist should be – a bit of a scientist. In love with his work, a bit of a snob (after all, he is not without reason sure that he is an excellent specialist) and moderately geek, ready to get to the very essence of phenomena – this is how someone who works with big data should be.

    The classical expression “big data arrays” as a translation of the term “Big Data” into Russian does not quite correctly convey the essence of this concept. Big Data is, rather, not a volume of information, but hidden deep intersections and processes that cannot be identified without additional analysis.

    Big Data is like the same American gold mine: the prospector (analyst) has to work hard to find something worthwhile. He must have the right attitude, and a set of tools, and a large reserve of determination to discover what is hidden from ordinary eyes.

    Directions of Work With Data: Who to be – That is The Question

    According to a survey of employers, Big Data specialists work in 6% of Russian companies. Traditionally, the main demand for Big Data analysts is formed by IT players, telecom companies, banks and large retail chains. More and more, the banking sector, public administration, and agriculture are resorting to the help of Data-specialists in their activities.

    Due to the low level of development of the Russian Data market, there is still no single accepted terminology denoting a particular volume of work with Big Data. Jobs implying the same specialization are sometimes called completely differently, for example:

    •  Big Data analyst;
    •  Mathematician / mathematician-programmer;
    •  Systems analysis manager;
    •  Big Data architect;
    •  Business analyst;
    •  BI analyst;
    •  Information analyst;
    •  Data Mining specialist;
    •  Machine learning engineer.

    In general, those who work with Big Data are divided into 2 large groups: Big Data analysts and Big Data engineers. The former are responsible for analyzing big data, identifying relationships and building models (at the moment in Russia this area is less in demand, in contrast to specialization in analytics). The latter are more responsible for storing, transforming data and fast access to them:

    Big Data Analyst

    Responsibilities:

    • Builds data collection processes in such a way that you can then quickly process information;
    • Analyzes and predicts consumer behavior, is engaged in segmentation of the customer base (this is clustering, classification, modeling, and forecasting too);
    • Personalizes product offers;
    • Analyzes the efficiency of internal processes and operational activities, develops solutions for their optimization;
    • Conducts analytics of risks and suspicious transactions, reveals facts of fraud;
    • Ensures the completeness and relationship between data from different sources.

    Big Data specialists are a new type of professionals, they help to consider what cannot be seen with the naked eye, with their help, working with data reaches a new qualitative level. Against the background of the intensive development of the digital sphere, a career related to Big Data looks very promising.
