Dupri began his musical career at a very young age.
When he was 10 years old, he got an opportunity to get on the stage and dance with Diana Ross. His father had coordinated the concert, which proved to be beneficial for Dupri.
At the age of 12, he started working as a dancer for the Brooklyn based hip-hop group Whodini.
In 1990, he produced his first act, the female hip hop trio Silk Tymes Leather.
In 1991, he formed the teen duo Kris Kross along with Chris Kelly and Chris Smith. The group’s first album, Totally Krossed Out, was released in 1992.
Dupri has since signed artists including Xscape, Bow Wow, Da Brat, Jagged Edge, Dem Franchize Boyz, YoungBloodZ, and Anthony Hamilton to the label.
In 1997, Dupri co-wrote and produced several tracks on Usher’s second album, My Way.
In 1998, Jermaine was involved in the release of Destiny’s Child’s eponymous debut album.
