During 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 5, episode 9, Sarper revealed that he earned his personal training license in Turkey ten years ago. However, he had only started taking it seriously as a full-time career in the past year. After meeting Shekinah, Sarper also became her personal trainer. One of their most controversial scenes in 90 Day Fiancé history involved Sarper weighing Shekinah on camera. Sarper was disappointed by Shekinah’s lack of enthusiasm, calling her "reactionless" and "emotionless." He felt frustrated that he was doing so much to make her laugh, yet she could barely smile. In season 11, episode 13, it was revealed that Sarper had written a two-hour-long routine. Shekinah found much of it inappropriate and was unsure if his Turkish comedy would translate well for an American audience.
